Walking Different in Christ

In A New Walk

Part of the "IN CHRIST" Series • Ephesians 4:17-32

Maturity must eventually be visible in conduct, not just confession. Paul shifts from the theology of the body to the practical "walk" of the believer. He diagnoses the old life and prescribes the new.

1. The Diagnosis: The Gentile Walk

Paul warns us not to walk as the rest of the world does. This walk is a downward spiral that begins in the mind and ends in the destruction of the heart:

  • Futility of Mind: Thinking that leads nowhere; emptiness.
  • Darkened Understanding: Losing the ability to perceive moral reality.
  • Hardness of Heart: Losing sensitivity to God and others (calloused).
  • Lewdness: Giving oneself over to unchecked desire.

2. The Wardrobe Change

"You have not so learned Christ... put off the old man which grows corrupt, and put on the new man created according to God."

Christianity is not just behavior modification; it is a change of nature.

  • Put Off: Like filthy clothes, we remove the old self (lying, stealing, corrupt speech).
  • Be Renewed: A continuous rewiring of the "spirit of your mind" by the Holy Spirit.
  • Put On: Clothing ourselves in righteousness and holiness.

3. The Healing Team: Fivefold Ministry

How do we learn to walk this way? Christ gave gifts to the church to function like a medical team—setting bones (equipping) so the body can move.

The Fivefold Ministry Gifts

How They Work Together

Without Balance...

People feel pushed, judged, or lack depth.

With Balance...

Truth is delivered with love, movement is paired with care, and faith leads to transformation.

"Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."
