Assurance In Christ
SEALED BY THE SPIRIT: BLESSED ASSURANCE
We often battle with believing we are truly and finally accepted by God. The Apostle Paul continues in Ephesians 1 to reveal the source of our blessed assurance—the Holy Spirit. The same God who chose and redeemed you has also sealed you, guaranteeing your security and inheritance.
The 3-Step Process to Salvation (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Salvation involves both God's sovereignty and human responsibility:
- God's Part: Pursuit — He initiated the gospel reaching your ears (the Word of Truth).
- Our Part: Choice — You chose to trust and put your faith in Christ.
- God's Part: You Were Sealed — The moment you believed, God sealed you with the Holy Spirit.
The Seal's Purpose: Holy Spirit as Our Guarantee
In Paul's day, a seal secured a document. The Holy Spirit's seal serves three purposes:
- Ownership: He marks you as His own possession, bought with a price (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
- Security: No one can tamper with God's work or snatch you from the Father’s hand (John 10:28-29).
- Authenticity: The Spirit confirms you are genuinely His child, not counterfeit (Romans 8:16).

Paul’s Prayer for Experiential Knowledge (Ephesians 1:17-19)
Paul prayed believers would have the wisdom and revelation to truly know these truths with their hearts:
- The Hope of His Calling: A guaranteed future of resurrection and eternal life, free from sin.
- The Riches of His Inheritance in the Saints: God considers you His treasure and beloved possession.
- The Exceeding Greatness of His Power: The same power that raised Jesus from the dead now works in you who believe.
