ALIVE IN CHRIST: FROM DEAD TO DIVINE
The Dead State (Ephesians 2:1-3)
Before Christ, our spiritual reality was grim. We were dead in our sins and trespasses, effortlessly following the path of this world, enslaved to the desires of our flesh, and naturally "children of wrath." This was our natural state—a state of utter helplessness.
- The World: We lived according to the world's present path.
- The Enemy: We followed the ruler of the kingdom of the air (Satan).
- The Flesh: We indulged the desires of the flesh and mind.
"But God..." The Riches of Mercy (Ephesians 2:4-5)
The two most hopeful words in all of Scripture signal the great reversal:
"But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ."
This supernatural act of spiritual resurrection is entirely dependent on God's character (His mercy and great love), not our performance. It is the moment He seated us with Jesus in the heavenly realms.
The Reality of Grace: Not By Works (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Paul is clear: salvation is a non-negotiable gift. We receive it, but we can never earn it:
- It is by grace you are saved through faith.
- This is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God.
- It is not from works, so that no one can boast.
"Stop trying to earn your place. You don't do good works to get saved; you do good works because you are saved."
Your New Purpose: God's Masterpiece
You are His Workmanship
The Greek word for "workmanship" is poiēma—meaning "masterpiece" or "poem." You are God's unique design.
Fulfill Your Design
You were created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared for you *beforehand* (Eph 2:10).
Live for the Purpose
Ask God what "Tool" He crafted you to be. Wake up daily asking for His plan—let your life painting show His work.
